The brief was to choose a song that tackles a social or environmental issue and create a 12x12 record cover alongside supporting materials. For this project, the song chosen was “1800-273-8255” by American rapper Logic. The song tackles the issues surrounding teenage suicide in the US.
These issues are reflected in the project outcomes through the use of colour and visual effects. The use of ripped typography expresses the distorted thoughts and emotions a person may feel under emotional distress. The colour palette and liquified backgrounds were drawn from inspiration from a scientific study that concluded that a brain looks different under a PET scan if someone is experiencing mental illness signs.
